The Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin Contest

Vote Momento for the Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin

Momento is nominated for Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin. Vote by Sept. 29.

Vote for Momento

Every year, Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce asks a simple but fun question: what's the coolest thing made right here in our state? This year, we're asking you to consider a trunk built in the small town of Boyd, because we think Momento belongs in that conversation, and we'd love your vote to help us reach the Top 16 by September 29.

A Trunk Maker's Story, Nearly 40 Years in the Making

Momento is a newer name, but the hands behind it aren't new to this at all. The company that builds every Momento trunk has been making trunks in Boyd, Wisconsin since 1987, long before "keepsake storage" was a category, back when a trunk was simply a well-built trunk.

Nearly four decades of cutting, joining, finishing, and hardware work will teach a shop a few things. It teaches patience. It teaches the difference between a piece that looks good in a photo and one that holds up in a home for fifty years. That kind of knowledge doesn't show up overnight, and it isn't something you can shortcut. It's earned one trunk at a time, in the same small town, by the same kind of people who've always done this work well.

Built to Order, Built in Boyd

Every Momento trunk is still built to order, in Boyd, by that same team. Nothing comes off an assembly line pretending to be handmade. When someone orders a trunk for a new baby, a wedding, or a retirement, it's built for that occasion, by craftsmen who've been doing this since before most of our customers were born.

An Old Craft, Given a New Purpose

Here's the part of the story we're proudest of: Momento didn't invent trunk-making. We took a trade that Boyd has quietly done well for almost 40 years and gave it a new reason to matter. Instead of general-purpose trunks, we build customizable keepsake storage to become a place for the wedding invitation, the newborn's first outfit, the adoption paperwork for a new dog, the ornaments that only come out once a year. The craftsmanship didn't change. What it's for did.

There's something distinctly Wisconsin about that, we think. A small-town manufacturer spends decades making something with its hands, then finds a new way for that same skill to mean something to people today. Not reinvention for its own sake, but reinvention because the work was worth carrying forward.

About the Contest

The Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin is an annual statewide competition hosted by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, now in its 11th year and presented in partnership with BMO. It exists to showcase Wisconsin-made products, the craftsmanship and innovation behind them, and the manufacturing careers that make them possible. This year, 108 Wisconsin-made products are nominated, and Momento is one of them.

Why We're Asking for Your Vote

We're not the biggest name in this contest, and we don't need to be. What we have is a team in Boyd that has spent almost 40 years getting good at one thing, and a product that turns that skill into something people keep for generations. If that sounds like the kind of "coolest thing" Wisconsin should be proud of, we'd be grateful for your vote before voting closes on September 29.

If Momento makes the Top 16, the contest keeps going through October, all the way to a final round on October 27. We'll let you know if we advance, and we'd love to keep counting on your support through each round.
